By evaluating available resources and total load demand data of residential consumers, a system design is modelled in HOMER to get techno-economic and optimal design analysis of the purposed system. This study proposes a hybrid hydro-kinetic/Photovoltaic/Biomass system integrated with grid to serve electricity in a residential area of district Kotli in AJK Pakistan. In these circumstances it is indispensable to exploit naturally available renewable resources for electricity generation. About 58% of its total energy generation is contributed by fossil fuel based conventional plants for which the fuel costs plenteous amount. Pakistan is a country in its developing stages. Rise in population and industrial expansion in developing countries are reason to burdenize the central grid. This study provides information for analyzing the integration of renewable energy into different objective based energy-systems.Power sector plays a crucial role in the development of a country. The survey was carried out in collaboration with tool developers which included five components namely background information, users, tool properties, application, case studies and further information. The survey also includes three hybrid simulation tools HOMER, RETScreen and TRNSYS. Connolly et al surveyed 37 computer tools for analyzing integration of energy systems. HOMER is sizing tools are used for the determination of optimal size of each component of the system and provide detailed information about energy flows among various components. RETScreen is prefeasibility tools are mainly used for rough sizing and a comprehensive financial analysis. The main features of two softwares for hybrid system design are discussed along with a comparative analysis. Software tools for hybrid system analysis The software tools related to hybrid systems in four categories: pre-feasibility, sizing, simulation and open architecture research tools. The analysis of a PV–battery and PV–wind–battery hybrid system is presented as case studies using HOMER and RETScreen. In this section, the main features of Homer and RETScreen softwares developed for hybrid system design are discussed along with a comparative analysis. The main objective of the paper is to provide a basic insight to a researcher to identify and utilize suitable software tool effectively, as per the requirements for research and development studies related to hybrid systems Available hybrid system models and software tools, their features, shortcomings, user need and choice for research studies is discussed. In the study hybrid system analysis two softwares are reviewed.
